I was born in Withernsea 1959, Lived there for 20 years, recently visited, and guess what. Nothing has changed, Little to no employment.

My point is nothing has happend over the last 25 years so l guess a ten year plan is needed.

Maybe time to get some European Cash and build more indusrtrial units so the local people can start small business ventures with low cost units and grants ITS A START?

Some suggestions from the residents of Withernsea for the 10 year plan have been really positive. A Town hall has been mentioned on numerous occasions, rebuilding the pier, opening up of the tunnels under various parts of Withernsea (could be a great tourist attraction). Having the railway rebuilt, more bed and breakfast accommodation available, a small harbour. These are only a few ideas but we would really love to have your ideas, remember it is your town and your future and what you say DOES matter.

ideas for withernsea

:o
What would really make WITHERNSEA
would be a special bus ticket for the summer.
five pounds day return is a large amount to pay.
if the bus service during the summer had a

cheap day return from Hull to Withernsea
valid from 0800 to 1800.
last bus to catch back would be 1800.
the ticket would be only valid from Hull to withernsea not
withernsea to hull.
if it was priced at 2 pounds adults 1 pound children.return.
this would make it an affordable place to go.
when people are here they would no doubt spend
some money ,so as to put some money in the local economy.
so come on council get east yorkshire bus services to put some
people before excess profit.
Make Withernsea a reasonable priced place to visit.

I think that is an excellent idea and worthy of passing on to East Yorkshire Motors.

Hey Les Barker, I think your idea is one of the best I've read, I agree that Withernsea needs much more spending from tourists to keep the economy here alive.
I was talking to a friend who lives in Hull the other day and they actually believed that Withernsea's economy could be described as "backwards!" I was appalled, but thinking on it I don't see how visitors from Hull could think much different. We don't need more big supermarkets we need small local businesses run by the local people and we need the population of Withernsea to support these businesses by shopping there...even if prices have to be a tad bit higher!
Well done Les!

The only way Withernsea will ever work is if it had facilities, plenty of B&B's good restaurants, PARKING (oh Council sold that idea off)

I have lived here since 1988 and its not got better in fact worse, when I first came to Withernsea the market was huge, look at it now, its all down to facilities, then Withernsea had plenty of B&B's

Perhaps the local Council should try to invite business people to the area by building a modern office block and offer incentives for companies to come to the area, like half rent periods for say 12 months, but you need big companies to do this, this will bring employment, in turn companies will invest in B&B's and hotels for business people to stay.

I am in business and if I want an office I have to go all the way to Hull, its so sad that Withernsea cant offer good quality office accommodation today, this will bring business to the area. I for one would rent an office if I could get one in Withernsea.

Just look at Waxholme Trading Park a huge success from Pigs to Factory Units amazing success story for a local farmer.

Come on Withernsea Council, lets get all the local business people together and sort out some solutions, lets get doing and stop talking and doing nothing.

Every now and then I view this thread to see how things are moving on. It’s now nearly 7 years into the ten year plan.

Many projects must have been completed by now. So can a local councillor or informed resident update us of any achievements over these years, also can they let us know of any project waiting to commence.

Any successes would be great to know about

• Tunnels opened
• Industrial Units
• Small Harbour
• Bus Fares
• Town Hall
• Small Pier
• Railway
• B & B’s

Any projects that didn’t go ahead would also be of interest.
